Survive & Save - Silver Core and Awards

Core

You are now starting to develop as a life saver and during silver you build on what you have already learnt.
It consists of:

  • Huddle Positions
  • Life Saving Backstroke
  • Landing the Casualty
  • Learning about Hypothermia and after care
  • Timed swim 100m in 2 minutes

Beach

Now you are familiar with the beach you now start to develop your skills
It consists of:

  • Learning about rip currents, sandbars and the rule of twelfths
  • A 10 minute clothed survival swim
  • Non-contact tows with rescue equipment
  • A initiative rescue where there are 3 casualties
  • Reviewing of previously learnt skills

Sport

This is the start of your physical development and being able to enter competitions
It consists of:

  • Tumble turns
  • Speed line throws
  • Manikin recovery from depths of 1.5m
  • Manikin tows with fins
  • Free style swimming: 200m: 4 minutes

Stillwater

You understand the lake environment and now start to develop your rescue skills at open water sites.
It consists of:

  • Learning about Water Forces and Speeds
  • A 10 Minute Clothed Survival Swim
  • Develop Non-Contact Tows
  • A initiative rescue where there are 3 casualties
  • Learning about Dams and Weir Hydraulics

Medallion

You are now familar with the pool and you can start to develop your rescue skills before trying them out in the sea.
It consists of:

  • Learning about inland water site safety
  • A 10 Minute Clothed Survival Swim
  • Developing non-contact tows
  • A initiative rescue where there are 3 casualties
  • Developing Throwing, Reaching and Wading rescues
