Lifesaving Sport is the only sport whose skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes.
At Horsham Life Saving Club, we first teach the basic life saving skills, which can then be applied to competitions at:
Club Level
The entry level into competing, club level competitions are designed to be friendlier and more relaxed than higher competitions, to allow for mistakes to be made and corrected. At Horsham, our main competition is held in November, spread over 3 to 4 weeks. Our members are split into categories depending on ability, to make sure everyone has a fair chance at competing.
Branch Level
The next step up, branch level competitions are designed to challenge competitors, putting them against other clubs in the local area. Our branch competitions are held by Sussex branch, covering 8 clubs in the surrounding areas. There are multiple events held a year, including branch championships and life support competitions.
Regional Level
Competing at regional level allows you to qualify to represent the South East Region at the National Lifesaving Championships. At this level, competitors go up against not only their own branch, but other neighbouring branches, competing for 1 spot per category who will compete nationally.
National Level
The final stage of competing, this level features both the National Speeds as well as the National Championships. To get through to this stage, competitors qualify at regional level. They then face off against other regions, stretching out to Ireland, Scotland and Wales as well. At Horsham, we consistently send competitors to national level, with good results, particularly in the Simulated Incidents.
